Alone on the Hill - Cumbria UK - By Barend

I was lucky enough to spend a week in the UK last month. The weather was unusually kind and I had a few hours to myself for photography before heading back home to Australia.

 I came across a lonely stable high up on a hilltop. In the UK there is freedom to roam on all land so I jumped over the fence knowing I wouldn't get shot by an angry farmer.

Took my photos and headed off again in search of more pictures.

-          Could I have found a better angle?

-          How could I have got the nearest wall of the building to be a bit brighter without over exposing the sky?

-          Is the fence line a good leading line or is it distracting?

-          Is it worth spending the time cropping out that orange object at the doorway to the stable?

Any comments welcome.

Cumbria UK - A simple sheep shed

I am in the UK this week for work but had the weekend free to drive through the Lake District in Northern England. The weather was wet and overcast giving a filtered diffused light. The high contrast between shadows and the bright background were difficult to manage. Without any photo editing software on my PC I used my IPad to work on the photo.
I saturated the colours a bit and adjusted the contrast a little. Any comments welcome.

Peter Wajngarten - Workshop of a previous post

This refers to a previous blog.  An attempt at cloning out the signage.  I used Lightroom for the cloning and it  is very quick and dirty attempt so don’t look too closely J .  Much better results can be achieved if care is taken.

Elephant washing in Malaysia - by Barend

I was lucky to spend a few days in Malaysia last month and visited the elephant sanctuary.

They took the elephants for a wash in the river. This shot was taken with my 50- 200mm zoom lense.

I like the way the water forms an arc over the rider, but wish he had turned to face me  for this shot.

Spiderback

We have all heard of piggy back, this is a spider carrying her young on her back. Taken hand held - it makes my skin crawl every time I look at it. Yuk!

Reflections ...Where to Crop

But where do I crop? On the right hand side of Image A the yellow sign distracts, but when I crop it out...see Image B the edge of the boat shed is cropped ....does the overall composition look better in A or B ...would appreciate your comments....Gary Leete

Bath Time by Gary Leete

I really like this shot. Taken with my Nikon 5000 with a Tamron Telephoto 150-500, at 1/1000^th  on f6.3

I just happen to be in the area and saw these two birds, they are Masked Lapwings,  on the river just below the bridge at Lorne Victoria.

I had the telephoto lens on the camera so I was able to get a good close up.  I believe a telephoto lens provides a shallower depth of field at any aperture, so that combined with the f stop of f6.3 possibly explains why the second bird is out of focus. Maybe I should have been smarter and changed the aperture to say f11. I wish I could remember to make all the changes that are required for changing situations...maybe the answer is auto!!!
